Just another typical day in the Nation's Capital
Many of you know that I love being from and living in the Washington, DC area. I grew up going to museums and seeing events that most people see from a news report far away. This past weekend our friends Lauren and Nathan came down from Pittsburgh to see the Cherry Blossom Festival. As usual I gave them the hard sell to move to Washington in the future.
We had a great time going around the city, attending a street festival on Japanese culture and then we saw the last live Cherry Blossom tree around the Tidal Basin. Note: it's really hard to plan around our regions crazy weather!
Now yesterday as I was driving from work to go and meet the Lewis' for dinner in Rockville - I had a quintessential Washington, DC event take place. For anyone in the free world who doesn't know, Pope Benedict is in town! He has been all over our capital city and has been generating excitement throughout the area (mostly for the Catholics, but it's still a big event). Anyway, after I left my office I drove around the block and found myself at a light on M Street NW. I had my Ipod on with windows down since our weather has been very nice lately!
I had noticed that there was a video camera set up but really didn't pay attention to it. However, then I saw a reporter look down and peer into my car as to say "I'm about to report, can you close your windows". Of course I wanted to hear what he had to say so I just turned off my music. (yes, this is all happened while I was at a red light - it's a long one at M and Connecticut) Then the man proceeded to give a news update for the South African Broadcast Corporation and I just thought to myself You just don't get this type of excitement when you live anywhere else.
Truly a great town!
